Performance Bodywork
What it is
Performance Bodywork is a process and approach to living that enables greater freedom and ease of movement no matter what your task. The techniques are of equal benefit to people working in fields as varied as Neurophysics to Truck Driving – if you have a body and get up in the morning you can learn how to use it to its best.
With additional specialist focus on the performing arts, Performance Bodywork is an invaluable tool for getting done what you want to get done with the minimum of effort and stress.
Charlotte has helped me greatly with my back pain which I have been suffering from since 1985. It has come back with a vengeance over the last year. With Charlotte’s intuitive bodywork, the pain in my calves released. We then realised that this was the source of the back pain. Since then I have been running around fast – and I am 55 years old!

Overuse and Misuse
Problems such as RSI and tendonitis often come from a combination of overuse and misuse. When we know how to use our bodies well and efficiently in our every day lives, we can continue certain activities for hours without our bodies complaining. If there is misalignment anywhere, we may not be able to operate for longer than a few minutes without pain.
We can be performing an action such as typing at a computer for years with no problems at all. And then we do something unusual, a new activity using different muscles - a day's gardening, carrying a heavy suitcase or starting a new sport. Suddenly we have aches and pains and don't understand where they have come from. We can trigger an underlying problem of misuse we don't know we have working at our regular daily activities, by doing something new.
Your Treatment
Each session is tailored to your own needs and state of health. You are observed performing the activity that is aggravating the problems. This could be sitting at your computer, playing a musical instrument or even driving the car. You will be assessed to see what is the root of the problem and then Charlotte will work with you to find ways of un-learning and re-educating. This may involve working with you on a massage table, using a Rebok ball and giving you related but relevant exercises.
It helps if you wear loose fitting clothing and it is essential that you come with an open, curious approach, ready to learn! You may also need a good dose of patience because sometimes this process can take longer than you expect.
You are supported in un-learning physical habits that are holding you back and then helped to develop your own awareness of what you are doing so that you can re-educate yourself into healthier ways of being. Charlotte acts as a facilitator, asking the right questions, observing what is happening and holding a space in which you can allow your own healing. You are encouraged to take responsibility for your health and the progress you make.
